PED Tracker

Chip & PIN was introduced to help reduce card fraud, and PIN Entry Devices (PEDs) are now recognised as essential retail hardware. However as retailing moves on, so do the fraudsters, and a number of retailers have recently fallen victim to PED fraud.

The new fraud threat

PEDs are taken from stores, tampered with and subsequently returned to site, all without your knowledge. Data capture devices inserted into the tampered PEDs record credit card details, including PIN numbers, giving the fraudsters access to potentially thousands of your customers bank and credit accounts.  Retailers often only realise that a breach has occurred when customers complain, by which time the damage is done, to both the customer’s credit facility and your reputation.

The solution

In response to this new threat, Sanderson has developed PED tracker which monitors a retailer’s PED estate of both PIN Entry Devices and ICC readers.  On initial installation the solution will provide a ‘snap shot’ of the retailer’s estate confirming which device is connected to which till – in itself offering considerable audit potential.  Should a device be disconnected or swapped for an alternative device, an alert is immediately raised and directed to the monitoring operators. 

PED tracker will not only alert you to connection changes - it also allows you to pinpoint where and when a change took place. Devices can be viewed across the whole estate, or can be defined by region or individual store.

The application is accessible using a browser and users and roles can be defined to manage access.
