Making Tobacco Track and Trace simpler

Posted by Rita Patel on Mon, Apr 29, 2019

The Sanderson system makes it easier and simpler for customers to be Tobacco Track and Trace compliant, with minimal disruption to their businesses.

On 20 May 2019, new legislation comes into effect that requires all wholesalers that supply tobacco products to maintain detailed records of all incoming and outgoing tobacco pack serial numbers, their origin/destination and commercial information about each transaction. This is known as Tobacco Track and Trace (TTT) and is part of the Tobacco Products Directive (TPD). The required information must be relayed in a timely manner to a central database, which allows HMRC and other relevant authorities, to track those products from their manufacturer through to the retail outlet.

The Sanderson Swords system facilitates these changes, including changes to your warehouse order picking operation. To comply with the rules, all traceable products will have a unique 2D barcode and every incoming or outgoing pack will need to be scanned. The Swords system eliminates the need for multiple scanning, providing sales and pick confirmation procedures to prevent the sale of tobacco products to unregistered customers.

Registration of your business should be completed online at https://ontrack.sgs.com/en-US/.
