SHD Logistics Award Winner LogoSanderson Group company, Proteus Software, has together with its customer Widdop Bingham, won the prestigious Return on Investment Award at the SHD Logistics Awards 2015.

The event, which was held in London earlier this month, recognises and rewards excellence within operations which have demonstrated best practice and extraordinary achievements in the intra-logistics, logistics and supply chain sectors. Proteus and Widdop Bingham won for their proven delivery of Return on Investment.

As Widdop, a leading wholesaler of giftware and fancy goods, has grown, they increased the size of their Distribution Centre to 110,000 sq ft, however, their paper-based picking system couldn't keep up. After research, Widdop selected Proteus Software's Radio Frequency (RF) Directed Warehouse Management System (WMS). The WMS integrated with existing systems, giving a seamless IT operation from point of order to issue of invoices.

All orders are processed in and out of the warehouse electronically and sent wirelessly to RF terminals which all picking staff are equipped with. This enables orders to be processed in priority sequence. The picking locations are constantly monitored by the system to ensure they are kept fully stocked. And when the final pick is completed a despatch note is automatically produced eliminating the possibility of mis-shipments. Invoices are also automatically produced and issued to the customer directly.

The judges commented: “This leading wholesaler clearly demonstrated a return on its investment, after it moved from a paper picking system to an automated one, which has delivered improved picking accuracy of 99.8%, labour savings, efficient space utilisation and productivity increases of 10%”.

David Gray, Chief Executive at Proteus, said: “Proteus is delighted that the Widdop Bingham project and the excellent collaborative work of both teams has resulted in operational improvements, customer service level increases and of course Return on Investment. It is tremendous that the project’s success has been acknowledged by the SHD Assessors and a wonderful surprise to have won given the quality of the shortlisted companies”.

The SHD Logistics Awards were declared a successful and important event by its guests. Other winners on the night included: Fresh Logistics, DHL and House of Fraser, Munters, Proximity with Scandinavian House, Peel Ports Group, Kuehne & Nagel with SEC Storage, John Lewis, Century Logistics, Great Bear, Kellogg’s with Voiteq and Unipart Aftermarket Logistics.

Peter MacLeod, Editor of SHD Logistics, said: “The mood of the evening was celebratory and upbeat, and it was heartening to see the obvious delight and pride shown by the winners. I congratulate Widdop Bingham and Proteus Software - very deserving winners.”
