Oil and Lubricants producer already seeing benefits

TOTAL South Africa has gone live with Proteus WMS at their warehouse facility within Unitrans Supply Chain Solutions’ Durban warehouse complex. The company sought a third party logistics (3PL) organisation to handle the storing, picking and shipment of their lubricants and free standing stock. Total selected Unitrans as their 3PL provider as they were impressed with the way that Unitrans handle and ship stock on behalf of other oil and lubricants producers.

TOTAL, renowned for producing some of the best quality lubricants on the market today, decided to have their own dedicated warehouse at the Unitrans Durban site. The main focus was on supply re-engineering of a customised solution for the entire Southern African region to be managed by a single partner. The aim was to reduce cost, single accountability, improved delivery accuracy and measurable KPI’s.

TOTAL selected Proteus WMS to run their warehouse operation, which has 21 warehouse operatives/pickers, and a combination of high-reach and forklift trucks. They have 3090 racking locations in the warehouse and 250 Block Stack locations exteriorly for the oil Drums. Already they are running at full capacity.

Feedback from both Unitrans and Total says that they are really happy with the system. Rufus Smith, IT Executive for Unitrans says, “We are really pleased with the way the project was handled. The technology was implemented on time and on budget. As soon as the system was live, it delivered 100% stock accuracy.”

Proteus WMS has been supplying the warehouse industry with quality warehouse management systems since 1987. The systems are scalable, flexible and robust. They improve operational effectiveness.

Unitrans Supply Chain Solutions have won many awards for their professionalism and excellence in the effective application of strategic, tactical and operational logistics and supply chain management in southern Africa, including the prestigious Logistics Achiever Awards 2007: Silver Award – Unitrans/BP Contract in Durban at River Horse Valley for ‘outstanding achievement in logistics in distribution network, management and optimisation’.
